Okay. I don’t know how Halloween became my favorite times of the year, but it is. Maybe it was the fact that when my siblings and I were younger, my parents would take us treating or treating no matter what. And it wasn’t in our own boring neighborhood. No. We took an adventure to all of the swanky parts of town. The neighborhoods with huge houses and where you actually got whole candy bars instead of one little DumDum lollipop.
Or maybe it was because at almost every restaurant I worked at (the service industry was my career for a long time), it was encouraged that we dressed up if we worked Halloween night. Or could it have been that New Orleans treats Halloween as if it were Mardi Gras, opening up its downtown streets to all of the crazies that dress up and go bar hopping all night long.
Whatever the case, Halloween is serious business in my household. Over the past few years, my husband and I have spent Halloween sitting outside and giving away candy to all the kids in the neighborhood. However, our ultimate goal is to throw an epic annual Halloween bash once we move back home to share with our family and friends.
October 31st isn’t just about dressing up and parties, though. It’s about having fun. It’s about all of the scary movies they play all month long on the movie channels. It’s about decorating the house and going on outings to haunted houses on the weekends leading up.
I’m especially excited about this year. I will be holding a virtual costume contest on the website! Details will be announced as soon as I get everything together, but the prize for the winner is going to be something truly special…and of course related to “Turning Grace”.
So, I hope you all have some great plans for Halloween night! Feel free to comment and let me know what you all will be doing.
I will keep you all posted about the contest!
